Here in room 205, we have exciting things happening. In addition to our Reading 180 program (a centered based reading program that focuses on a variety of skills that help move kids from being “so-so” readers to great readers), we are also reading a novel.
The novel that we are reading together as a class is: Autobiography of My Dead Brother, by Walter Dean Myers. You can find a synopsis about the novel as well as information about the author himself by clicking on the highlighted links above.
In math we are working to fill in gaps in conceptual understanding in addition to working on higher order cognitive math tasks. This includes working on regrouping for subtraction, logical check points for reviewing the student’s own work, graphs, and data analysis.
We will be beginning Writer’s Workshop next week and will begin to work on writing expository and narrative pieces. The student’s will be conferencing with Ms. Andrasco and Ms. Henning throughout the day and will be receiving constructive feedback on their writing to ensure that their writing is as clear, accurate, and precise as possible.
We will not have school on Monday, October 11, 2010 to honor Columbus Day. We will also be going on our college field trip on October 28, 2010. More information about the college day field trip will be coming out in the coming weeks.
That is all for now, there are a lot of exciting possibilities and plans in the future for Room 205 here at Canter Middle School.
Our Door is Always Open,
Ms. Henning and Ms. Andrasco
